Tourism Selangor hosts its 2nd Golf Tournament – A step into the tourism economic recovery phase

The 2nd Tourism Selangor Golf Tournament 2020 descended at Templer Park Country Club, Rawang on Sunday, September 13th, which marked its second year of establishment following the 2019 debut.

The 18-hole tournament welcomed a plethora of golfers; from golf industry players, top management in the private sector, celebrity golfers, Tournament Sponsors, golf enthusiasts, and members of the Media, to the representatives from Government-linked Companies (GLCs). The Tournament paved the way for the strengthening of existing or future relations among contesting golfers in a competitive yet enjoyable setting.

The 2nd Tourism Selangor Golf Tournament 2020 was supported by Menteri Besar Selangor Incorporated (MBI Selangor), Landasan Lumayan, Central Spectrum (M) Sdn Bhd, OPG Global Sdn Bhd, WB Event and Management Sdn Bhd, Worldwide Holdings Berhad, Gamuda Land, Sweet Spot Digital (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, and Roslan, Hazratul, Azman & Hisyam Peguambela & Peguamcara.

General Manager of Tourism Selangor, Mr. Azrul Shah bin Mohamad in a statement shared, “Tourism Selangor is proud to host this 18-hole Tournament which has entered its second year of establishment. It is of delight to see how the support and responses to this Tournament have grown over a couple of years”.

“Selangor is the leading, premier golf hub in Malaysia”, says Mr. Azrul Shah bin Mohamad, General Manager of Tourism Selangor

“Selangor is home to the highest number of Golf Clubs in Malaysia, with a total of 29 Golf Clubs across the State. Thus, from this fact alone, it cannot be denied, Selangor is the leading, premier golf hub in Malaysia”, Mr. Azrul Shah added.

The Tournament’s first tee was executed at 8.00 a.m on Sunday, on which such tremendous support received by the star-list was in favour of the Tourism Promotion Agency despite the Tournament’s second inception was held post Covid-19.

As Selangor is expected to become the host for more upcoming Golf Tournaments and Championships in the State post-pandemic, it is mandatory for organizers to strictly comply with the SOPs set by the Malaysian National Security Council (MKN) and the Ministry of Health Malaysia. Golfing in the rise of the new norms should not be less exciting yet it should be no-less of a safe setting either. One of the nearest Tournaments tailing from Sunday’s event is the Selangor Golf Classic 2020 making its debut on 29 & 30 September 2020, on which Tourism Selangor proudly becomes its Title Sponsor.

The State of Selangor through Tourism Selangor is committed to explore the opportunities and further leverage in the sports and golf tourism, as it poses as a key role in fuelling the State’s economy through domestic tourism. This tourism segmentation does not only benefit golf operators; retail, accommodation, hospitality and transportation providers will also attain a positive impact from the travels. The buzz created from golf tourism events will draw the tourists’ attention onto nearby tourism attractions such as the ones near to the Tournament’s venue in Rawang; Taman Eko Rimba Kanching and Taman Eko Rimba Komanwel.

“Pusing Selangor Dulu” is Tourism Selangor’s domestic tourism campaign

Golf tourism acts a catalyst to creating an influx of local sports tourists into the State. With the highest number of Golf Clubs in the nation, it is not an intricate effort to further penetrate the golf tourism segmentation. This is in line with Tourism Selangor’s Domestic Tourism Campaign, ‘Pusing Selangor Dulu’ (travel in Selangor first) which is growing in popularity among domestic travelers.

The penetration of golf tourism in Selangor improves the living standard of its residents, leads to the enhancement of sports facilities across the State and increases public interest in golf making Selangor the preferred golf destination in Malaysia.

Chiva-Som’s Renee Grandi Shares Her Secrets to Naturally Support Menopause

It’s time to talk menopause.  The more you can understand about the transition and how to naturally support your body through this time, the smoother the conversion.  This transition has somewhat been vilified, however, many other cultures found this time to be a new stage of life with vigour to follow – let’s go with that.

It is essential to nourish and support your body as much as possible whilst going through this transition, by eating the right foods, supplementing with herbs and implementing lasting lifestyle changes.

Your diet will play a huge role in how your body processes menopause.  During this time your natural sex hormones (oestrogen, progesterone and testosterone) are beginning to reduce their production, due to depleted ovarian follicles.  Oestrogens are essential to bone formation and integrity, as well as supporting healthy breast tissue, mood, sleep and cardiovascular functionality.

Fortunately, the more information you can acquire about supporting your biochemistry, the more control you have with your hormonal shift.  This is your time to holistically nourish and support your body, take a hold of the reins and look after yourself with the immense love and compassion you deserve.

Top nutrients to support menopause

Calcium rich foods

These are vital to support your bone density, structure and integrity which can become depleted in menopause.  Aim to add a daily source of calcium rich foods into your diet.

Food sources:  organic, well-source dairy, eggs,

Tip:  Try to avoid excessive black tea or coffees as this can deplete bone mineralization.

Phyto-oestrogen Rich Foods

Phyto-oestrogen rich foods compete with oestrogen receptors and help to balance out hormonal fluctuations.  These foods have been shown to decrease menopausal symptoms over 12-weeks if you substantially increase your phytoestrogens. Aim for a quarter of your daily caloric intake to be abundant in these food sources.  This is where your diet can really be nourishing and supportive to menopause symptoms and digestion due to their high fibre content.

All phyto-oestrogen foods should be organically sourced – especially tofu and soy products!  There are 4 different types of phyto-oestrogen sources:  lignans, coumestrol, phytosterols, Isoflavones.  Mix them up daily so you can get the maximum benefits.

Lignans: Linseeds, rye, millet, sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, seaweed, buckwheat

Coumestrol: Soy sprouts, alfalafa, red clover, green beans, mung beans, red beans, split peas

Phytosterols: Olives, soy beans, pumpkin kernels

Isoflavones: Soy beans, alfalfa, red clover, parsley, chickpeas, mung beans and organic brown wholegrains

Tip: Get creative, get the ladies together for brunch, perhaps suggest that everyone is to bring a phytoestrogen rich dish! You can share recipes, cooking methods and have a good laugh.

Try to Avoid: Excessive caffeine, coffee or black teas. High sugar foods. Processed foods (keep it as wholefood as possible). Spicy foods as they may aggravate hot flushes. Eating or drinking too late before bed.

Herbs to Support Menopause

Sage (Salvia officinalis)

Sage has traditionally been the go-to herb for menopausal women to reduce hot-flushes and promote stress reduction. It has been shown to bind to GABA receptors in the brain and positively impact the nervous system. Often menopause excessively stimulates the nervous system instigating hot-flushes, sweating, and anxiety.  Supplementation can improve memory retention, reduced stress and reduce excessive sweating without all the harsh side-effects! This is a great herb to make as a strong tea and ice it for those fiery moments.

Lemon Balm (Melissa officinalis)

Lemon balm is a calming and sedative herb, perfect for getting you that well deserved restful sleep.  Menopause often disrupts rejuvinative sleep due to night-sweats, hot-flushes, increased anxiety and nervousness.  A recent 2020 study demonstrates that supplementing Melissa officinalis can significantly improve sleep, sexual desire, heart palpitations, flushes, sweating and even joint pain.  If you feel constantly on edge with mood changes galore and a longing for a deep restorative sleep, lemon balm might just be the herb for you.

Note:  Herbs and nutrients can interfere with other medications; it is important to seek advice from a trained professional prior to starting alternative therapies.

Lifestyle Recommendations

Aim to ensure a healthy weight

This will support your body from every aspect and you’ll feel great working on yourself! If you’re feeling like weight just keeps packing on, fatigue is your new shadow and depression is lurking – it might be time to check your thyroid too.

Exercise daily

Get those endorphins going! You won’t ever regret a workout, you’ll feel strong, capable and ready to take on your next task.  Remember, you are worth it, your body is worth it.

Ensure adequate sunshine

This is by far the best way to get your Vitamin-D and the perfect excuse to immerse yourself in nature.  Nature really is essential for mental health and wellbeing.

Do things that make you feel genuinely happy.

Time to self-evaluate! What do you do for fun? What makes you feel genuinely happy? It’s time to start doing this on a daily basis, life is too short to waste it being insipid.

Find your female tribe!

Get together with other women your age, be amongst the strength of women – support them and they will support you. We have evolution behind us with this one, there’s nothing like spending time with your tribe.

Junk food banned from children under 18 years

AFT tracks down the reports published in Mexican news media about this recent controversial ban.

In response to Mexico’s high coronavirus death toll and a high occurence of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) like diabetes, 31 congressmen of a city in Mexico, Oaxaca passed the law last month banning the sale of snack foods like chips, candy and sugary soda drinks to children under the age of 18. One objection was noted.

Mexico’s Deputy Health Ministry Hugo López-Gatell described soft drinks as “bottled poison.”

In Mexico, three out of every 10 children are overweight data from the federal government’s Ministry of Health. 109 youth died from COVID-19 in July, where some of them presented with NCDs like obesity, asthma or diabetes.

“What the children should drink is water. They can have infusions, they can have a little milk, a cup or two a day, and voila. That is what children should drink, ”explained Simón Barquera Barquera, Director of the Nutrition Policy Research Division of the National Institute of Public Health of Mexico (INSP).

Simón Barquera, MD, PhD, a Friedman School alumnus (N96, NG05) was honored at the 11th annual Michael and Susan Dell Lectureship in Child Health on April 6, 2020. Pictured (from left): Simón Barquera, MD, PhD, and Deanna Hoelscher, PhD, RD, director of the MS Dell Center for Healthy Living in Texas, USA.

Diabetes, hypertension, or obesity are some of the diseases that make it difficult for people with COVID-19 to recover, and the regular consumption of sugary drinks is a trigger for these conditions, the surgeon Simón Barquera explained in an interview with Argentina’s Infobae Mexico.

The legislation was initiated by a lawyer, mother and Local Deputy for the XV district, Santa Cruz Magaly López Domínguez, who said obesity has reached “epidemic proportions” in Mexico and that Oaxaca has the highest rates of childhood obesity among the country’s 32 states.

A talk presented in March 2019 by Dip. Magaly Lopez Dominguez

Aug 6, 2020, the Morena party deputy tweeted, #Oaxaca is the first state to pass the legislation in favor of the health of girls, boys and adolescents.

A study conducted by INSP and Tufts University found that the high rates of consumption of soft drinks and other drinks with a high sugar content contributed to the deaths of more than 40,000 people a year.

Which city in Asia do you think should legislate a law such as Oaxaca’s? Do you think such a law is necessary?

PUMA Enters New Era With Cushioning Technology XETIC

Global sports brand PUMA, as part of a sponsored research collaboration with MIT Design Lab, has created XETIC, a cushioning technology. Today marks a new era where mechanical cushioning and foam come together. This ultramodern performance innovation provides excellent comfort for walking and is introduced in a new street-ready sneaker called Calibrate Runner.

https://youtu.be/R5e-ON-NxUA
Calibrate Runner, Puma’s latest shoe with XETIC technology

The futuristic looking XETIC material may first appear like it’s 3D printed, but it is in fact made of foam with its named derived from “auxetic materials”. When subjected to mechanical stress like compression, XETIC shows off a certain behaviour and cushioning which provides an excellent means of comfort.

“PUMA’s innovation department teamed up with MIT Design Lab because we needed their high-expert engineering capabilities,” said Romain Girard, Senior Head of Innovation at PUMA. “MIT has computer simulation possibilities, which enabled us to see the behavior of the material and
quickly find the optimal structure for calculated cushioning.”
PUMA and MIT Design Lab worked with an extensive runner community to analyze individual running specifics, such as pressure points, and they then took the data to develop a specifically shaped structure that allows for progressive cushioning. The result was a structure shaped like the horizontal number 8, which is characteristic for the XETIC.

The whole team was delighted with the ability to work on a project that allowed them to explore such a new space and to see all the efforts culminating in the creation of the Calibrate Runner.

Over the course of the project qualitative and quantitative user testing was used, a novel finite element analysis simulation, and parametric design to find the perfect pattern, which was named ‘Recurve’.

Calibrate Runner has a unique futuristic aesthetic with the visible XETIC technology, and will appeal to the techiest of streetwear collectors, while giving athletes access to a new era of cushioning. Straight from the lab, into the future.

PUMA’s new Calibrate Runner featuring XETIC technology will be available in Asia Pacific from 15 Oct 2020 and retailing at MYR659.
