Diabetes Mellitus, hypertension and high cholesterol are the most common non-communicable diseases among Malaysians. These patients have to follow a strict regimen of medications to prevent serious complications. There lies the problem as many find it challenging to obtain their supply of long-term medication. Factors such as long waiting time at clinics, distance, and costly consultation fees have long troubled patients.
During the event, attendees were offered free screening of blood sugar level, blood pressure, BMI and heart-related problems. Attendees also had the option to consult with the on-site doctors or online via DoctorOnCall’s platform. Pandamaran State Assemblyman, YB Tuan Tony Leong Tuck Chee also participated in the event, as he was very keen in promoting health awareness and benefits of Peduli Sihat programme among his constituents.
DoctorOnCall is an online clinic offering services such as online consultations with board-certified doctors via chat, phone call or video call. In addition to non-communicable diseases, DoctorOnCall also treats common symptoms such as cold, fever, and skin conditions. In the event that patients are prescribed medications by the doctors, they will then be delivered to the patient’s home. DoctorOnCall’s forum also allows visitors to participate and discuss medical related questions with a doctor at www.DoctorOnCall.com.my/tanya.
Peduli Sihat card holders are eligible to obtain basic medical treatment for any disease. High participation among the people of Selangor in the Peduli Sihat initiative indicates that the programme has gained a lot of attractions and shows that people of Selangor are mindful of developing a healthy lifestyle.
Peduli Sihat scheme consists of two categories. Category A will be for families that earn less than RM3,000 per month and Category B will be for single individuals aged above 21 years old and earns less than RM1,500 per month. Families are entitled to receive a free vaccination worth RM180 on top of the yearly allocation of RM500 medical benefit. For further information, visit https://pedulisihat.com/.
With this collaboration, geographical distance from a health facility will no longer be a challenge, as medical care is only a call away. This is in line with the motive to provide the best medical access from Selangor government through the Peduli Sihat scheme initiative headed by The Selangor Health, Welfare, Women and Family Affairs Committee Chairman, Y.B. Dr. Siti Mariah Binti Mahmud.
